Future Warfare

Thursday, May 11, 2006, 11:02AM EST

Videogames have always played with future technology to bring weapons of mass destruction from the distant future to gamers today. E3 has a diverse lineup of shooters that take place tomorrow and a long time from now.

Having dealt with the past and present in previous installments, the Battlefield franchise jumps ahead to 2142 in Electronic Arts’ new shooter. Players will choose to fight for one of two military superpowers in an epic battle for survival, the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition. Massive battle mechs wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. Teamplay features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in commander mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates.
