First Glimpse of E3Expo

Some of our crew landed yesterday to set up our production room. We checked in with the show directors and for a moment it almost felt like we never left after last year's show. And, of course, there are a lot of similiarities. The same great people are here running the show - most of them have been doing this since the show began. Most of the larger exhibitors are back in precisely the same places they were before, many with incredible new exhibits. And yes, you can expect to see attractive models, wild characters, and celebrities among the masses. But that's where the similarities end. This is the year we finally get to play the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii on the floor of E3, plus there are going to be 1,000 other new products. It was the experience of seeing these new exhibits, and the areas where this magic will happen, that snapped us out of last year, and catapulted us into the present. This will be unlike any E3... ever.
The view from the show production office tells one of the major stories of the year. Looking straight out you can see Sony and Nintendo, side-by-side, preparing to pitch their campaign against XBOX 360 and against each other. I swear, if you could talk to the carpet between those two exhibits, it would be begging for mercy right about now, because in a few days it will be buried alive under the trampling feet of tens of thousands of eager attendees. Getting around in West Hall this year should be interesting. You can count on us to bring you images and panoramas from the middle of those exhibits, and the middle of the action.
Walking the floor revealed a few surprises which, of course, I can't share with you just yet. I'll have to tease you with a promise that you're going to be very excited when you see what we have to show you next week.
We're in our production room setting everything up. We have a couple dozen computers, a whopping high speed video production network, and a bunch of edit stations to get set up and rolling before we tackle the Sony Press Event tomorrow. They don't typically turn on the air conditioning in these rooms by now, so it's a little like building a production news room in a sauna. Sit back on this lovely Sunday, sip a cold drink, and we'll do the work of bringing E3 2006 to you.
