Sony Scores with Furry Critters and Adventure
Character adventures and sports games buttress the PS2 lineup

This year, Sony Computer Entertainment of America will devote much of its energy to following up on some of its most durable franchises.

Leading the pack is Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (PS2), which returns this intergalactic dynamic duo to the Bogon galaxy from the first game to fight a robot villain bent on eliminating all organic life.

Fortunately, there is plenty more evil to go around, so Jak and Daxter get their fair share to overcome in Jak 3 (PS2). In saving Haven City from attack, the two heroes become the subject of suspicion and are forced to fend for themselves on a treacherously dangerous island.

Not to be left out, PS2 adventure fans will enjoy Sly 2: Band of Thieves, the follow-up to Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. Sucker Punch Productions is designing the game with an emphasis on more innovative character designs, enhanced toon-shaded animation, and craftier interactive environments. The game will be released this September.

From Bottlerocket Entertainment for PS2 is the 3D adventure The Mark of Kri 2, due in the first half of 2005. The innovative fighting system--which gives you the chance to attack up to nine enemies with stealth, power, or guile--will get much more use, as this sequel is three times larger than its predecessor.

Moving on to a human contest of a much more immediate nature, this summer, Sony is releasing the official videogame of the 2004 Olympics, Athens 2004 (PS2). Also arriving this summer is Hot Shots Golf Fore! (PS2), the challenging and sometimes off-thewall franchise that now supports head-to-head and tournament online competition. Hockey fans will see some new features in NHL Hockey 2005 (PS2): With the EyeToy, it will be possible to create an in-game character who looks just like you.
