Nvidia's GeForce 6 powers up PCs; GoForce pushes portables

The recently announced GeForce 6800 card family is occupying the lion's share of Nvidia's space on the show floor at E3 this year. The big news for both the high-performance and budget-friendly SKUs in the line is full DirectX 9 support and lots of horsepower to support resolutions of 2048x1536 pixels at 85Hz. More than 50 different games that demonstrate the cards' awesome power are playable and on display at the booth, including the breathtaking Unreal 3 engine demo that wowed crowds at the most recent Game Developers Conference.

Nvidia also keeps a careful eye on the mobile market, and the company promises that GoForce will dramatically improve the mobile experience in PDAs and cell phones by offering longer battery life and improved image quality. GoForce boasts support for digital zoom capabilities and digital camera support and will be able to handle MPEG-4 videos. Already, deals have been inked with the likes of Dell, HP, Palm, Sony, and Toshiba to include the technology in future products.
